Clinic on 3/12

I was only able to observe part of an auditory processing disorder evaluation. I watched the clinician administer the SCAN-A on a high school-aged girl.

Clinic on 3/5

I saw the end of a session with a really cute older lady. She was a bilateral hearing aid user, but neither of her aids were working at the time of the visit. It had been 12 years since she had last had her hearing tested. When her new audiogram was compared to her old audiogram, it appeared that her left ear had worsened at 750, 1000, and 2000 Hz. Her hearing loss was bilaterally sensorineural mild sloping to profound. Her SRT in the right ear was 75 dB HL and 86 dB HL in the left ear.
Her granddaughter was an audiologist out-of-state, so the purpose of her visit to the WVU Clinic was to obtain an audiogram and take earmolds. However, the client asserted that her granddaughter would be purchasing new hearing aids for her. While the earmolds were being taken, the client made jokes and laughed alot. She was a pleasure to be around.
Interestingly though, she was referred to her regular doctor because of the way that she described the onset of her decreased hearing. She described losing her hearing the day before the visit. She said that a loud sound woke her in the night, and that was followed by decreased hearing and tinnitus. She described her hearing as "sounding hollow." Her symptoms were similar to those of sudden onset hearing loss, so she was referred to her regular doctor.

Clinic on 2/26

I observed a session with a male from Printing Services. He had no outstanding history of hearing loss, and he reported that he always wore hearing protection when exposed to noise at work. Otoscopy, tympanometry, acoustic reflexes, acoustic decay testing, pure tone audiometry, and speech audiometry were all normal.
